Alfred. Gordon. Lucius. Bruce … Wayne. Names that have come to mean so much to me. Today, I’m three weeks from saying a final good-bye to these characters and their world. It’s my son’s ninth birthday. He was born as the Tumbler was being glued together in my garage from random parts of…

JOHN BLAKE

There has been much speculation over Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s role in the forthcoming The Dark knight Rises. Director Christopher Nolan has revealed very little about the character beyond his name, John Blake and the fact that he’s a Gotham City police officer. So if we want to know more we’ll have to do as the Batman and search for clues.

First things first- Who’s side is he on? Well in this instance the obvious answer is without a doubt the right answer. He’s a good guy and in all probability a hero. It’s clear that he isn’t willing to stand by as Bane wages war on Gotham.Another subject that has been on the minds of speculators is that of Blake taking on a kind of side-kick roll to Batman, which of course leads to the inevitable Robin rumours. Others say he’ll don the Batsuit when Bane “breaks” Batman. There is no evidence to support either possibility. What’s more likely is that Blake’s character will demonstrate that Batman isn’t the only man in Gotham that’s willing to break some rules for the greater good of Gotham. (Photos from the set show him sneaking around Bane’s Tumblers with a petrol-tank) John Blake is a good man. He even seems to volunteer at an orphanage. -maybe he used to be one?So where does Blake figure into the storyline. Well he’s a cop so it’s a safe bet that Gordon will bring him in. Why? The clues suggest he is assigned to guard Bruce Wayne early on in the film- or at least escort him. Bane’s war on the wealthy in Gotham would make Bruce his enemy number one. This would tie in with a scene we glimpse in trailer #3- Bruce goes missing; (imprisoned in Bane’s oubliette with the rest of Gotham’s rich and famous) Blake asks Selina Kyle, “Did they kill him?” She replies, “I’m not sure.” While we can’t be sure that they’re talking about Bruce, it does seem most likely. It’s at this point that the trail goes a little cold and John Blake’s part becomes a big question mark. All we know is he finds himself at the mercy of Bane’s men, only to discover that they have none.Does the fall kill him? Unlikely- Nolan wouldn’t want to reveal that in a trailer. What’s really revealed in this moment are Blake’s emotions- as far as he knows he’s about to be killed and yet he doesn’t look scared, he looks disappointed in himself- he’s let someone down- he’s failed. In his last (as far as he’s concerned) moments he does not think of himself but of those he was trying to help. Like Batman, John Blake is a true hero. He will surely play a part in The Dark Knight Legend.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES: Ra’s al Ghul returns

Warner Bros have confirmed that Liam Neeson will be reprising his role as Ra’s al Ghul in the third and final instalment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman saga, The Dark Knight Rises

In Batman Begins, Ra’s met a sticky end amidst his plot to tear Gotham apart. (yes, definitely dead; he was in a fast moving train that plummeted about 100ft, smashed through the ground into an underground car park that then collapsed and exploded- DEAD) Even Nolan couldn’t create a convincing survival story after that and in the grounded reality of Nolan’s Gotham, there will be no resurrection of the Demon’s Head either. Ra’s will undoubtedly feature in flash backs, (after all, the cast includes a “young Ra’s al Ghul” too) most likely with Bane and SPOILER

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES in less than four months.
